Yesterday, we started back to school. We have been talking for almost a month now about when we would start and so the kids were ready. On Sunday, we looked at some of our new textbooks trying to excite ourselves about the upcoming year. I was hoping that the kids would actually look forward to the new school year and not dread it so badly. I think this idea worked! I also asked them for some ideas on how we can make each day better. They came up with some really great ideas:
BETTER ATTITUDES!
WAKE UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF BED!
EAT HEALTHY BREAKFAST!
EXERCISE DAILY!
DO NOT GROAN ABOUT SCHOOL!
NOT BEING DISTRACTED!
MANAGE TIME WISELY!
Those are the ones that the kids came up with and I hope that they will be more interested in following through with these ideas since they are the ones that said them. I came up with one that they are not too excited about:
NO ELECTRONICS UNTIL 3:00!
The children spend too much time thinking about what to watch on TV or which game to play on the Wii or Nintendo DS that I thought this would help them focus on the task at hand to know ahead of time that they could not do any of that for most of the day. I am hopeful that they will not rush to the electronics at 3:00 but instead find other stuff to do.
Our official cross country season started yesterday with a practice at the Park Along the River in New Albany. We had fun seeing old friends and making new ones. We have a big group of kids (about 50-60) I am guessing. I think this year will be exciting. We have practices two times a week and the kids are supposed to run those plus two other days as well. It looks to be a very busy school year/cross country season and we are looking forward to the challenge.
You've got a great idea about the electronics!!!
